Devitt & Moore Wines honours and celebrates the oldest composite clipper ship, the City of Adelaide. Built in 1864 in the UK, by shipping company, Devitt & Moore, the City of Adelaide undertook 23 return voyages between London and Adelaide. The City of Adelaide ship played a pivotal part of Australian immigration, with over 250,000 Australians being able to trace their ancestry to the voyages undertaken.

  • The City of Adelaide clipper ship was built in the Devitt & Moore shipyard in Sunderland in the UK. Sunderland was one of the most productive shipbuilding regions in the United Kingdom for over two centuries.

  • William Pile was a British shipbuilder for Devitt & Moore. The first to introduce the Clipper class of ship to the Sunderland shipyard, and was the primary builder of the City of Adelaide ship.

  • Captain D. Bruce was a Scottish born master mariner and well-regarded captain of the City of Adelaide Clipper Ship. It is thanks to his courage and delivery that over 250,000 Australians can trace their ancestry back to the voyages undertaken by the City of Adelaide.
